Artist’s Statement

I am a 2D artist with a background in drawing, and I create my work by “drawing with paint,” primarily using acrylic paint markers.

I occasionally incorporate acrylic gouache and traditional acrylic paint to further expand my color palette and textures. For me, drawing offers a sense of control over my medium, allowing my artistic voice to flow freely and intuitively.

The subject matter of my work often draws from nature—especially the repetitive shapes and patterns found in the natural world. What I create is a garden from my mind, a lush and vibrant landscape where each shape, line, and color contributes to a harmonious whole. While my pieces may resemble flowers or botanical forms, they are not meant to represent specific plants, but rather evoke the feeling of being surrounded by nature’s rhythm.

I am driven by my love for color and the ability of art to brighten a space. The repetition of shapes and lines is central to my process, creating a sense of flow and balance that mirrors the calming effect of nature itself. This repetition helps to create a calm in my mind, offering a reprieve from the structured planning required in my other role as an art educator.

My journey as an artist has been deeply influenced by my experiences as an educator, particularly during the pandemic. As I found myself spending more time in front of a computer, trying to teach art remotely, I reconnected with my own creative process. With newfound freedom, I allowed myself to paint intuitively, letting the work unfold without rigid planning.

Travel plays a significant role in my creative process. Every summer, I travel to Italy, where I immerse myself in the beauty of Tuscany. The everyday details of life there—whether it’s the texture of a stone wall or the vibrant colors of the landscape—serve as an ongoing source of inspiration. These experiences infuse my work with a sense of place, yet my art remains abstract, allowing viewers to interpret it through their own lens.

Ultimately, my art is about the expression of joy, the beauty of simplicity, and the peaceful rhythm of nature. It is my garden of the mind, and it is meant to offer a moment of calm and connection, both for myself and for anyone who encounters it.
